How a Rainwater Filter Works

Rainwater is the source of all life on Earth. Although it’s not drinkable for humans, it has several advantages. Rainwater is free, easy to collect, and simple to store in tanks. A rainwater system with a rainwater pump and multiple filters makes rainwater suitable for flushing your toilet, watering your garden, or cleaning your home.

Most rainwater systems have a double or triple filter. You’ll find washable mesh filters and fine filters here, which remove impurities and dirt particles from the water. Replacing the Rainwater Filter

It is recommended to replace the rainwater filter at least once a year, preferably every six months. A visual inspection can tell you a lot. If you barely recognize the filter you installed a few months ago, or if you experience pressure loss in the rainwater pipes, your filter is likely saturated. It’s time to replace it.

Replacing your rainwater filter is easy, especially if you follow the steps below.

1. Turn off your water pump and shut off the water supply.
2. The filter is in a transparent plastic housing, called a jar or cartridge. Unscrew it. Have a plastic bucket ready to catch any residual water.
3. Remove the cartridge and the filter itself.
4. Take this opportunity to clean the cartridge. Don’t forget the rubber seal. Reattach it with a bit of lubricant, and apply some to the new filter before installing it. Place the cartridge back and tighten it.
5. Turn on the water supply again and switch on your water pump.
